July Book: Bringing Up Boys

Our book this month is Bringing Up Boys by Dr. James Dobson. Please join us to discuss at our book group. It should be quite an interesting discussion.

July Activity: Earlywine Picnic & Pool

Since it is so hot, we are going to do a water activity this month. Join us for dinner at Earlywine Park and cool off at the awesome Earlywine pool. This pool has waterslides, splash area and walk in beach. Cost is $3 after 6 PM.

Two playgroups

We now have two playgroups -- an afternoon playgroup on Mondays at local parks and a lunch playgroup on Thursdays at member's homes. Please feel free to join us for one or both of these fun playgroups. Both moms and kids have a great time!

Cooking Group: Cooking Cuban

We will be trying our hand at cooking Cuban food this month for our cooking group. It should be interesting since we are probably not very experienced with Cuban cuisine. We will be dining at one of the city parks unless the weather is not cooperative. In this case, we will meet at a member's home.

June Activity - Lunar Mini Golf

We are going putt-putt golfing at the Sooner Fashion Mall where the old Stein Mart was located. It is a black light indoor mini golf. So dress the kids in something that will glow well.

The cost will be $6 for kids 5 and under and $8 for kids over 5. The price covers 3 games. Parents are free if they are not playing. More info http://www.glowminigolf.com/

End of Year Party

It is time to celebrate the end of the school and MOMS club year. Let's thank all the current board members for all their hard work and successful year! Our party is on Saturday June 12th.

1st Touch a Truck Day Planning Meeting

We are starting to plan for the Touch a Truck Day on May 8th from 9 - Noon at the Cleveland County Fair Grounds. The first planning meeting is Wednesday, February 17th at 9:30 AM. Check your e-mail or contact us for location.

Touch A Truck Day brings children and their parents in contact with a large spectrum of trucks that serve our community and the people that run them. It is our MOMS Club's primary service project and community fundraiser for the year. All of the monies we make are donated to the children's section of the Norman Public Library which we all dearly love and use often. The actual event will take place on Saturday, May 8th from 9 to noon at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds. Last year we had over 30 trucks that the kids could climb in, honk the horn, pretend to drive and talk to the vehicle operators. We even had the MediFlight helicoptor there that you could get inside!! Other trucks include a cement mixer, a crane, ambulance, fire truck, police car, tow truck, sanitation truck, dump truck....and the list goes on! Pretty much if you can think of it, it was probably there! There is a suggested donation of $2 per child but only suggested. We want to involve as many people in the community as possible to be able to have one morning where the kids are actually allowed to touch, experience and talk to the trucks that they are all so excited to see on our city streets. Last year our donation to the library was almost $5,000 and over 1,200 children came to the event!!

Touch A Truck Day is one of the most personally rewarding projects I have ever been a part of just for the sheer fun-ness factor as well as the great benefit to our community.

February Bowling!

Our February chapter activity is to go bowling @ Sooner Bowling Center on February 15th. It will be a fun way to work off some of those Valentine's goodies from Valentine's Day.

We will set up a lane or two with bumpers for the kids. It is so fun to watch them bowl.
